Learn one Chinese Character a day - 火

Chinese character 火 is actually still a vivid graphical depiction of the object it denotes. Anyway let us examine its evolution history first as usual: ( image get from http://www.vividict.com/ )
Learn one Chinese Character a day - 火
Oracle Script of 火 - looks quite similar as that of mountain (山 - ) , Chinese ancestor changed it along the time to become at Bronze Script period to differentiate it from 山.

was actually drawing of fire flames, and when it evolved to , Chinese ancestors used to denote heap of firewood, with to denote flames. Please note thatof is not really a drawing of human (人), unless Chinese ancestors were all supermen who could spurt fire.

With below image of a campfire, it is quite clear that 火 means fire, flame, or something fierce like burning firewood

Now we can continue to enjoy a Chinese calligraphy with 火 inside:
薪火相传
