Learn one Chinese Character a day - 豚

It has been taught in our previous lesson that 豕 means Pig. However 豕 is eventually used only as Radical to form other Chinese characters. Chinese ancestors then added meat (which is "月") to 豕 to create 豚 to mean Fatty Pig in place of 豕.

It can be clearly proved by the evolution history of 豚 ( image get from http://www.vividict.com)

Oracle Script of 豚is 豕 () with an extra meat (). Seal Script has clearly show the idea of add meat () to Seal Script of 豕 (). After that it continued as Clerical Script till current "豚".

豚 means Fatty Pig.

Now it is time to enjoy a Chinese calligraphy with 豚 inside:
竹外桃花三两枝,春江水暖鸭先知。
蒌蒿满地芦芽短,正是
河豚欲上时。
